Moonlight Raider by Amanda Scott

About MOONLIGHT RAIDER
A MAN OF HIS WORD
Border lord Walter Scott of Rankilburn, grief-stricken after burying his father, goes to the forest seeking solace. Instead he finds a half-naked young lady fleeing pursuit. Wat offers his protection, but honor demands that he return the golden-eyed beauty to her rightful husband-even though the last thing he wants is to see her in another man's arms.

A RUNAWAY BRIDE
Molly Cockburn has fled her home, family, and the brutal scoundrel she was forced to wed. Her pursuers are closing in when the powerful new Lord of Rankilburn bravely intervenes, then promises to help prove her marriage unlawful. Though fiercely loyal to her family, Molly fears they might harm the man she is coming to love, and now she must decide whether to remain faithful to her blood . . . or to her heart.

Without thinking, she put a hand to his arm, noting how hard his muscles were as she looked into his eyes said with deep sincerity, “I’m sorry I frightened you. I don’t think clearly when I’m angry. In troth, I fear that whenever my temper gets the better of me, I do try to get away, but only to try and calm myself. Losing my temper has often …”
She paused when his expression altered rather strangely.
“You should not look at a man like that unless you want him to kiss you,” he said softly.
“But I do,” she replied honestly and without hesitation. “No man has kissed me since my granddad died, and I think I would like you to, if you don’t mind.”
***
A voice deep within Wat shouted a warning of where such a kiss might lead, but he ignored it, cupping her chin again with one hand while he drew her closer with the other. Then, gently and ever so slowly, savoring the moment for himself, he lowered his mouth to hers and kissed her.
Her rosy lips were feather soft and warm against his own. Her slender body snuggled against his and seemed to fit there unusually well. When she moved her lips beneath his, kissing him back, he shifted the hand that had cupped her chin to cradle her head beneath her veil, marveling at the soft silkiness of her hair.
She moved her lips as if to taste different parts of his, and another part of his body stirred strongly in response.
The urge to take her then and there was nearly overpowered him, and as much to distract himself from that dangerous urge as to answer the invitation her lips were offering, he pressed his tongue between them and began to explore the intriguing, moist interior of her mouth.
She gave a gasp, then seemed to stop breathing. But when he continued his exploration undaunted, she inhaled with a moan and touched her tongue to his.
Her breath was whisper soft and clean, and her breasts pressed against him, tantalizing him and making his fingers itch to stroke them. That thought provided stronger warning than the voice in his head that he was treading dangerous ground.
Remembering his vow to protect her but wise enough not to break their embrace too abruptly, he eased his tongue from her mouth. Then he kissed her more lightly on the lips and again on her forehead.
“We must go back, lass. I should not have done that, but I’m not sorry I did.”
We did it, sir,” she said, looking solemnly into his eyes. “Faith, I invited it.”
He shook his head at her. “Believe me, if my father were still alive, and I were to tell him exactly how it happened, he would have much to say to me, none of which I would want to hear. But I’d deserve every word.”
“Sadly, he is not here to scold you,” she said.
“Aye, but Westruther will give me an earful if he hears about it. You are an inexperienced maiden who was naturally curious, whilst I am …”
“… much experienced at such things?” she said for him when he paused.
“More experienced than you, I’d wager,” he said with a sudden grin. “But we are not going to discuss my experience, now or ever, my lass.”

Five Stars
I personally really love memoirs because I feel that they always have something to teach us.  Everyone can contribute a lesson from their life story.  I thought Cherie's "The Church of Tango" was a perfect example of this.  Her honesty was very humbly because she really bared her heart and soul in this memoir.  I also love her passion.  I've seen the Tango danced many times and felt that the dance was a perfect metaphor for Cherie and her life.  It's a dance of passion, pushing and being pushed; similar to many events that happen in her life.  At times she was down but she found the passion to push back.  I thoroughly enjoyed this memoir and learned about the courage it takes to start over and follow ones passion!

Ravensdale by Lucinda Elliot

02_RavensdalePublication Date: April 18, 2014

Formats: eBook, Paperback; 260p

Genre: Historical Regency/Comedy-Spoof

Add to GR Button

When the group of highwaymen headed by the disgraced Earl of Little Dean, Reynaud Ravensdale hold up the hoydenish Isabella Murray’s coach, she knocks one of them down and lectures them all on following Robin Hood’s example.

The rascally Reynaud Ravensdale – otherwise known as the dashing highwayman Mr Fox – is fascinated by her spirit.

He escaped abroad three years back following his supposedly shooting a friend dead after a quarrel. Rumour has it that his far more respectable cousin was involved. Now, having come back during his father’s last illness, the young Earl is seeking to clear his name.

Isabella’s ambitious parents are eager to marry her off to Reynaud Ravensdale’s cousin, the next in line to his title. The totally unromantic Isabella is even ready to elope with her outlaw admirer to escape this fate – on condition that he teaches her how to be a highwaywoman herself.

This hilarious spoof uses vivid characters and lively comedy to bring new life to a theme traditionally favoured by historical novelists – that of the wild young Earl, who, falsely accused of murder by the machinations of a conniving cousin and prejudged by his reputation, lives as an outlaw whilst seeking to clear his name.

‘Ravensdale’ is a fast paced, funny and romantic read from the writer of ‘That Scoundrel Émile Dubois’, following the adventures of his equally roguish cousin and set in 1792, just prior to the French Revolution, two years before 'That Scoundrel Émile Dubois'.

My Review
Copy received from  Historical Fiction Virtual Book Tours for an honest review
Three Stars
Ravensdale by Lucinda Elliot was a delightful read.  I really enjoy and read a lot of historical romances so Ravensdale was a comedic relief from the overly dramatic romance that I read.  The author, Lucinda Elliot kept the story at a good pace.  The hero and heroine were fun and engaging.  There were many laugh-out-loud moments.  I especially liked Isabella and her refusal to conform to the standards set before her, she was her own person and very entertaining.  Anyone that is looking for a light and fun romantic adventure will really enjoy the hilarious dialogue and scenes.

Praise for Ravensdale

“This was a good book. Well written and funny. As far as historical romances go, this one is quite a page turner. She turned a historical romance into something fun and different with comedy added in.” - Brenny’s Book Obsession (Amazon.com)

“I liked how Elliot poked fun at the clichés of historical romances. The chapter titles made me laugh. They were these little parody’s which gave just enough lightness to the story without turning it into a joke.” - Lauryn April (Amazon.com)

“And despite all the satire there is still an enjoyable story taking place in this book. Elliot does a fine job of allowing the reader to not only laugh at some of the absurdities in this tale but also root for the players to find their happy ending. There is plenty of emotion and heart in this book as both Isabella and Reynaud are characters of admirable quality and depth. ..I applaud Elliot for making the poetic regency romances we hold dear to our heart into something fun and different. She never insults or tarnishes what we love about the genre but allows it to blossom with comedy making it something I particularly loved even more.” - JC @ All is Read (Amazon.com)

“This was a cleverly written story, similar to a tongue in cheek Jane Austen classic.” - Gidgeemamma (Amazon.com)

“Ravensdale achieves everything it sets out to do, playing with formulas and stereotypes of older romance novels with abandon.The writer manages to pay tribute to the genre while having fun at the same time. In one paragraph, the sturdy no-nonsense heroine muses on the cliches of the plot she finds herself in, capitalizing all the character types such as the Wild Young Buck, the Villain of the Piece, and the Sweet Young Maiden. You can see her eyes rolling as she teases. But then the novel transforms, as the stereotypes become real people under the clever typing fingers of Lucinda Elliot.” - Jo (Amazon.com)

“If you enjoy Georgette Heyer-style period romances, you’ll probably enjoy "Ravensdale". However – and this is what is so clever about this novel – if you don’t, then there’s a good chance that you’ll enjoy "Ravensdale" anyway. It provides you with both characters that you can genuinely like and care about, an interesting story, and a parody that is at times hilarious.” - Mari Biella (Amazon.com)

“I didn’t want it to end. Ravensdale is a thoroughly enjoyable read.” - Anne Carlisle PhD (Amazon.com)

“I was so engrossed that I couldn’t stop reading and ended up with a terrible headache, but it was worth it. What an amazing bunch of characters! First of all, there’s Lord Reynaud Ravensdale, the Disgraced Outlaw and Earl: this is a character to really fall in love with. He’s intelligent, quick, wild, impetuous, an amazing shot, and absolutely bursting with honor. ..Isabella is an amazing kick ass woman, and a true, perfect match for the larger than life Ravensdale.” - Ral in the West (Amazon.com)

About the Author

Lucinda Elliot loves writing Gothic style stories, which isn't surprising because she was brought up in a series of big old isolated houses which her parents were refurbishing (it wasn't so fashionable back then). After that, she lived, studied and worked in London for many years and now lives in Mid Wales with her family.

She loves writing about strong women to complement gung ho males.

Her interests do include weight training and body shaping,and she was once a champion Sports fighter, but apart from that her interests are quite geeky. Reading classic novels, conservation, gardening, and even names and their meanings (bring on the carrot juice). She loves a laugh above anything.

Dark Prince by Eve Silver

Dark Prince
by Eve Silver

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BLURB:
Innkeeper’s daughter Jane Heatherington is sold into indentured servitude to cover her father’s debts, sold to Aidan Warrick, a man whose handsome face and form mock the rumors that skulk in his shadow, rumors that paint him a smuggler, a pirate…and worse.
On the rainswept Cornish coast, Aidan’s business is carried out in the darkest hours of moonless nights, his secrets are many, and death follows in his wake. Isolated and alone, Jane's only companion is the man she dare not trust, the man who looks at her with heated desire that she both fears and craves.
As she finds herself ensnared in the twisted schemes carried out within the walls of Aidan’s looming estate, Jane must decide if Aidan Warrick is the dark prince of her dreams or a monster preying on the innocent…
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

EXCERPTS

Excerpt One:

“What manner of man are you?” she whispered, half convinced that he was no mortal, but a demon sent to torment her and tempt her and leave her fit for Bedlam.

He ran the pad of his thumb across his lower lip, his gaze fixed on her face, and something flickered in the depths of his mercurial eyes. She thought it might have been regret.

“I am your employer,” he replied at last.

“My master,” she corrected softly, unable to keep the rancor from her tone, unwilling to let the lie stand. “An employee may choose to leave. A bondservant may not.”

He made a soft sound of impatience, but offered no denial. Instead, he reached out and settled a corner of the blanket more securely across her lap before turning his gaze to the desolate landscape once more.

Bleak emotion bulged against the confines of Jane’s restraint. She both feared and loathed Aidan Warrick. And she was grateful for his small kindnesses. He blurred the boundaries, and in that instant she hated him as much for his kindness as for his cruelty.

Ian glanced around the now empty room before speaking. “I realize I’m in no position to judge relationships in the work place.”
Hell no, considering Ian had pursed his now-wife, Riley, brought her into the business, and promoted her, Dylan thought.
As for Olivia … “There is no relationship.”
“But you want there to be one. And my sister isn’t cooperating. Am I right?”
When Dylan didn’t reply, Ian continued. “I saw you two in the hallway. At the party.”
Dylan blew out a long breath. “Not that I owe you an explanation but nothing happened.” He ran a hand over his goatee, buying time.
“Bullshit. I saw the kiss.”
Dylan inclined his head. “Fine.”
He knew Ian was overprotective of his sisters. He even understood the man’s reasons. For that reason alone, Dylan wouldn’t lose his temper now.
“Look, you’re my friend. More than that, I respect you as my boss. But whatever is or isn’t going on with me and Olivia … that’s none of your business.”
Ian eyed him through his infamous narrowed gaze, assessing him, causing Dylan to straighten his shoulders and meet his stare head on.
Ian cleared his throat. “My sister is tough on the outside but she’s … more fragile inside,” he said, clearly considering his words carefully.
“Your point?” Dylan asked the other man.
“Don’t play with her head or her heart.”
Dylan inclined his head. Unknowingly, Ian had just reaffirmed that whatever kept Olivia at arms length, it had nothing to do with business. If anything, she felt too much or she wouldn’t have run.
“We good?” Ian asked.
“Always.”
“Then good luck in Hawaii,” Ian said, turned and walked out the door, leaving Dylan alone to strategize his next step.
Dylan wasn’t the type to give up on something he wanted. He’d been too soft with Olivia, giving her space, figuring she’d give in to chemistry eventually. Obviously that wasn’t going to happen. He needed to take control and should have done it sooner. Where better than the tropical paradise of Hawaii to make his intentions crystal clear.
Yes they were going to Hawaii on business, but she was interested in enjoying the island. They were staying in the same hotel and attending the same events. That added up to opportunity and Dylan wasn’t above taking advantage if it meant getting what he wanted. And he wanted Olivia.

Social worker Madison Evans grew up in foster homes and knows what it means to have-not. She isn't impressed by Alex Dare’s wealth or charm. Not since she fell hard for him once before, only to discover she was just one of his too-easy conquests.
This time around Madison refuses to succumb to Alex so easily. But Alex wants Madison. And if there is one thing Alex does well, it’s to get what he wants. Can he convince Madison to take a risk and dare to love?

After ending a relationship to a cheating, domineering man, Isabelle Masters takes off in her leased Mercedes, only to be arrested for grand theft and hauled to a local police station. To her surprise, she is rescued by the most unlikely person possible, Gabriel Dare, a man she’s been attracted to for far too long. Gabe offers Isabelle freedom along with an invitation to Eden, an exclusive island resort where everything and anything is possible.

Although Gabe yearns to possess Isabelle, he knows all too well he must fight his primitive need to bind her to him, and instead help bring out the independent woman she yearns to become – or risk losing her for good.

A woman who needs to run her own life. A man who needs to exert control. Can she surrender to his erotic demands without losing her sense of self once more?

Decklan Dare knows about the unexpected loss of loved ones and for this reason, he values control in all areas of his life. Amanda Collins enjoys the freedom she finds in casual encounters without the emotional connection a relationship brings. They meet and their physical attraction is mutual but both experience feelings that could run deeper – if they drop their guard and let each other in. Decklan is first to trust, but when he discovers the secret Amanda’s been hiding, will he forgive? Or will he rebuild every wall before she has a chance to explain?
